“I can’t meet you for coffee” by Zia Shick

Inspired by chappell roan’s song “coffee” off of ” the rise and fall of a Midwest princess”

The idea that this song paints really helped me have the idea for this digital painting. The fact is that a lot of people have that one person who is their weakness , a person who lingers in their life , it’s a pretty simple concept but it’s one I think about a lot.

Chappell uses the idea of getting coffee rather then wine to avoid falling into the same path she has in the past but as the lyrics state in the closing of the song she is self aware that no matter what if she sees this person

Nothing will change, no matter if it’s romantic or not everyone has that person at one point in their life.

I have had many of these types of people in and out , I am not one to let go easily and I dwell on the past very easily . I find it easier to fuel my emotions through music hence why I chose a song to represent the topic

the relief that comes with finally letting go of that person is a very bittersweet thing , I found the soft hums that chappell includes at the end of the song to be a good representation for that , while vibrant colors are apart of my style I wanted to make them look somewhat muddied or dull in a way of translating this into the painting

” I can’t meet you for coffee” being the growth of stepping away no matter how hard it can be . I had the idea to put it in ransom type lettering as a disconnect from self.
