Why You Should Read Rumi by Cambree Prescott

September 30, 1207, Balkh, Afghanistan, an amazing 13th century poet was born. His poems were inspiring and sometimes had a really deep meaning or no meaning at all. When I read his book I was inspired. I never liked reading ever but the way that he used his words and how he got his point across was truly creative and appealing.  One of these mottoes was “do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you”. I think this has a deeper meaning than what you initially think it does.  He was considered to be one of the greatest poets of all time. I agree  with this statement because I never enjoyed poetry until I read Rumi’s book of poetry. Now that you have a better understanding of who Molānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī is, here’s why you should read his poems. 

“Rumi is one of those writers who transcends time and space”, people online have said in reviews. I agree with this. He writes more with spiritual aspects and if you’re wanting to find a deeper connection with yourself and the meaning of life he is the way to go.  From my own experience, if you have no experience of reading poetry, rumi is a good way to start because this book will inspire you to read more in general and to read more poetry. If you don’t believe me, try it for yourself. I’ve never read a book that has made me feel so inspired to keep reading  it. He speaks a lot with love and every word you read in each poem has such a deep connection to real life thoughts and situations. For example here is one of his best poems called Unfold your own myth. ‘Who gets up early
to discover the moment light begins?
Who finds us here circling, bewildered, like atoms …”

Doesn’t that just make you wonder what the deeper thought is of these words? I think Rumi can really help and impact people with real life thoughts and doubts. He also shows how love is so strong and how it can affect you. Reading stuff with a deeper physiological meaning can make you really think about how you need or can change yourself for the better. If you decide to read his poems, I would recommend letting these words guide you into a different world in your head where you can be a different person and imagine the things you can do to better yourself or lead yourself into a new chapter in your life.

Now telling you all that I can’t force you to give it a try but I would 100% recommend reading his books, poems, quotes. It can really make you think about the deeper meaning of life and I think everyone should experience that feeling of thinking freely. He’s rated highly by people all over the world.
