The impact of you – Grace Kasanos

Slow from the start, talking in halls and bathroom stalls.

May preludes the summer days, abandoned in a haze.

Summer breeze, shaded by the trees. Picnics in the park and sidewalk chalk.

School begins again, and I need a friend. I felt so alone until the sun had shone.

Your spirit has warmed my soul. Child-like wonder is so profound.

No more hanging around as an afterthought. Because of you I get reminded that I am loved daily. More plainly you repair the cracks in my soul left from foes of before. You are my safe space in a scary world. You have taught me that my emotions and thoughts are valid. You are the village that helps me survive. I can’t imagine my future without you there. This is the impact of you.
