“What do you see in Valley that brings out the excellence and light in students that most schools can’t reach?” (by Eisley Diaz)

Valley High School is great at showing its excellence and the light Valley brings out of our students. It shows how and why Valley High School is not just a school for is behaved kids, but kids who need faith to continue building their future.

Valley is normally seen as a school for bad kids. Literally. Today (9-10-24), as I was walking in, there was a parent, and he said, “this school is for bad kids? Looks like it.”

I’m bringing this up is because Valley is literally looked as a place for bad kids as a punishment. When the parents don’t even go to Valley, honestly how would they know?

But now, it’s time for my part. As a current enrolled student in Valley High School, the kids here aren’t necessarily bad, they all just have their own problems, and own ways to cope and go about things with issues. Kids here come because their parents and either them themselves, have lost faith, and don’t know what they’re going to do, or how they’re going to make it in the future. So kids come here, as a last resort or chance to gain faith back, and get a reason to keep going.

In my perspective, the kids here come for a second chance, and even most graduate early, work, and move out exactly how they wanted from coming here, and actually have teachers, who care about them, and who will sit down and talk things step by step with them, and help as much as they can. I’ve seen and understood where the student is coming from, and I’ve seen the light in students after a few weeks of coming to Valley High School.

Down below, I will have a few students and staff members (not teachers)with a response to a question I had asked them. This question is, “What do you see in Valley that brings out the excellence and light in students that most schools can’t reach?

Jacinto Peterson (Principal) likes to go shopping. These are his favorite two things he’s bought.

”Kindness and compassion. Gives students the opportunity to remember a time where no one gave a damn about them and it reminds them here, to be the best that they are and for them to know that adults care about them.”

Corie Hamilton (Front office) answers the phone, advocates for students and does any needed filing Corie likes to spend time with her grandchildren, and go on walks and
meet new people and wish them an amazing day.

”In Valley, kids aren’t just a number or a name. We try to welcome in students every day, and get to know them personally. The students here know what it’s like to not fit in, and we want them to know that they’re loved, needed, and wanted here.”

Heather Dykes (Attendance Secretary) tracks students attendance, puts in their attendance notes, excuses classes for admin, helps with registration, and if you have
any unpaid school fees you go to her and get that fixed up. Heather likes to ride horses, and do horse competitions.

”Valley High School gets more hands-on, personal help and emotional contact with teachers and staff. Valley High School goes beyond just a student getting a degree. We try very hard to make sure you’re ready for college, a job opportunity, and life expectations. We get you ready to be successful in life.”

Eisley Diaz (Student) likes to do art.

”Valley High School is a school where the teachers spend individual time with you,
making sure you understand what’s going on, and making sure you’re okay. Valley High School welcomes us every day with positivity and love, and makes us feel seen. Here at Valley, us students are looked over every day feeling loved, and understood by teachers and staff, who never judge us for who we are.”

Sean Savage (student) has his own band called, “My Pet Spider.”

“There’s an atmosphere here among the administration and a lot of the kids, and the teachers that go here that just brings out the best in students and makes them feel comfortable to be themselves, and not only just be comfortable being themselves but to answer questions in class, and share what they have on their mind and how to think about certain things, but also feel safe in and out of school, which a lot of other schools don’t bring that out from the students, because it’s everyone is basically robots following a certain same schedule every day and trying to keep up with the certain things they have to do in class, and at Valley it’s a completely different atmosphere and a lot of the people I’ve met here, definitely bring out that atmosphere.”

Humberto Chavez Naylor (student) likes to play video games.

“The teachers are more accepting, and understanding than most and the staff seem to
care about us a lot more than most.”
