[FROM THE ARCHIVE] David Lee Reading

THIS ARTICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN THE LIBERATOR VOLUME 9 ISSUE 1 (OCTOBER 1997).

On September 18, the Poet Laureate of the state of Utah, David Lee, read at Valley.

Those who attended know how entertaining and friendly Lee was, reading poems and giving young writers advice.

Lee, who has been to Valley twice in the past year, read poems from his books “Cov-enants” and the 1995 winner of the Western States Book Award, “My Town.” He also read a new work that he said will appear in his next book.

His often hilarious, often touching explorations of small town life kept the crowd of students hanging on every word. The poem “Ugly” drew the most enthusiastic crowd response of the reading.

Many thanks to David Lee for once again reading for us and sharing his advice on writing.
