Hey guys, it’s your favorite person, Bella!! Today I will be talking about an opinion I will stand on until I die! Diet Coke sucks; yes, I said it, and I’m more than happy to say it again. Yes, my parents work for Coca-Cola, and yes, I grew up trying basically every Coke product known to man. But Diet Coke is absolutely nasty; it tastes like someone stuck their hand in a dirty swamp and then mixed it with no-sugar Coke. I hate it with a passion.
It’s not even good for you; it has artificial sugars (like aspartame) that can damage your teeth and may be linked to cardiovascular problems, insulin resistance, and type two diabetes. And just like any other soda, it can still contribute to weight gain if you drink it all the time.
And yes, I know I shouldn’t be flaming the company my parents work for, but Diet Coke is absolutely NASTY, and don’t think the side effects are over—I have more to spill. Diet Coke has taken over most of the U.S.; if you think about it, it’s basically a legal drug. The reason it’s so addictive is because of the caffeine content and the sweetener (that tastes like battery acid), aspartame. It triggers reward pathways in the brain and creates a sensory stimulus because of the carbonation.
The drink was originally created in the 80s because of the demand for healthier, low-calorie drinks and foods. According to the official Coca-Cola website, “We needed a big idea to come out of one of the toughest decades we’d ever seen,” Carew explains. Diet Coke was pegged as a top priority. The project was strictly top secret; only a handful of senior executives knew about it, and team members had to agree to the assignment before getting the details.
Yeah, so as you can see, the company made it to profit off of the health boom in the 80s. ALSO, don’t get me started on dirty sodas—so many people wonder why they are putting on weight or why they don’t feel good. I don’t know, Jimmy, maybe it’s because you’re putting artificial sugars and other additives into your drink that you drink almost every day.
