Old People Watching Ai Videos at Full Volume Is Annoying by Azel Reese

Now I’ll be honest. I’m nosy in public, we all are to some extent. When someone’s on speakerphone next to us at the grocery store we eavesdrop. It’s a natural response. Maybe it’s a little annoying to hear someone on speakerphone, but it’s not infuriating. Now let’s shift situations. You’re in the doctor’s office, your headphones are on and you’re minding your own business. Then all the sudden you hear it; an old lady across the room watching facebook reels. You can see her phone, and on the screen are those ai dogs all over millennials social pages. Her phone is at full volume and she’s laughing ballistically. Now that’s infuriating. But it stayed in the doctor’s office.

Well that’s changed. Now these old ladies are taking their ai videos everywhere. Waiting for your food at a restaurant, ai videos that you can hear from across the room, you’re in line at mcdonalds, someone’s grandma is on their phone watching ai, its taken over these old ladies. The problem isn’t that you know they’re watching ai, the problem isn’t the ai itself. The problem is that they can’t listen to it at a normal volume. These ai videos are always at full volume or close to. No matter where you go these videos seem to find you. And now they’re evolving to take over millennial men at Costcos. I was at Costco the other day when I heard a 40 year or so man walking with his wife, but his attention wasn’t on her. His attention was on the ai cat video. You know the one, the three white and grey cats dancing in a circle. The specific “that or that” controversial song playing in the background of the video, and as expected the video was at full volume. Now isn’t it embarrassing? You’re watching your phone at full volume, everyone knows what you’re watching, and people are staring at you. How is that not socially awkward?

Now I understand being deaf, needing hearing aids, but here’s the thing, most modern hearing aids are bluetooth and connect to your phone. So there’s no reason to be listening to something at full volume in public. Listening to things out loud isn’t bad, but there’s no need for full volume. Especially if its slop made by ai that lessens our abilities to think for ourselves. Creativity is real, and ai does not have the ability to be creative. But when ai is making brainless videos meant to trick our sweet old grandmas and our poor old dads, it’s a bit upsetting. Now I’m not saying ai is bad, but i am saying ai has the ability to lessen our thinking just like all slop we find on social media.

To end this, please go talk to your grandmas, your fathers, and older siblings who watch anything, specifically ai, in public. It’s annoying, and we all get secondhand embarrassment from it.
