Have you ever had to work six or more hours and they only give you a 15-minute break? I have to tell you it’s like getting a trailer for a break. If anything, you feel more tired after the break. For some people this is the sweet spot but for others it makes you feel more tired and need some type of energy drink and coffee.
Some studies say a 30-minute nap is enough to feel recharged and is a healthy amount of rest, so why shouldn’t breaks be the same? Some jobs require you to take 30-minute breaks but will call you back to wherever you are working because it gets busy and never gives you the rest of your break. In Utah, workers are required to get 17- to 30-minute breaks. The jobs I have worked never honored that, but no one ever reports it because we all need jobs.
Some jobs pay for 15-minute breaks but will not pay for a 30-minute break. Some people working 10+ hour shifts will willingly take a 15-minute break because they need the money and can not afford to take that off; in no world should that be the norm.
All of this goes the same for schools. Some elementary schools will do 15-minute lunches and 15-minute recess and tell the district that, technically a 30-minute break, but kids need more than 15 minutes to eat and 15 minutes to play. As teachers sometimes do not even get lunch because of recess or 15 Minute breaks are a scamlunch duties, but some teachers can eat in class; kids can not.
Some people’s lives are at work, and those 15-minute breaks are all the sleep and eating time they get, leaving grown adults with extreme eating disorders, malnourishment, depression, and anxiety, as with a lot of other health conditions. As for kids, it can lead to anxiety, eating disorders, and depression.lives are meant to be lived to the fullest and have a healthy balance between work, school and home life depending on if you are an adult in college or a 16 year old just getting a job. All of these problems can be helped, even just a little bit, with just 15 minutes.
