How to: Love Yourself (by Kenley Taylor)

About 85% of the population struggles with self-esteem. That’s almost everyone! But the big question is how can we fix that? Are there things we can do to help ourselves? The answer is absolutely! Low self esteem doesn’t just affect you but also affects the people around you. Loving yourself can make the world of a difference, read more to find out how we can make that happen. 

step 1: give yourself positive affirmations. 

This has always been something that has helped me with my confidence. If every day you wake up and immediately feel bad about yourself and that’s all you think about nothing will improve. You should recognize the positives in yourself and things you do. Take 5 minutes every morning to look in the mirror and say at least 5 positive things about yourself, could be about looks, personality, or traits, anything you love about yourself. And truly believe it and listen to yourself when you say those things. Continue on with your day remembering what you said in that mirror. 

Step 2: take care of your body and mind

Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you should do.i’ve had times where i’ve gotten in a slump and let my room get messy, that made my head feel messy and i had no motivation to do anything. But the second you realize that isn’t helping you or anyone, things can progress. You just need to get up and clear your space and head, with a clean body and clean space comes a clean mind. That means things as little as face masks, skincare, meditation, working out, walks, hiking, anything that could help you slow down and breathe. 

Step 3: do what makes you happy

Keeping yourself distracted and busy can help in so many different ways. It always feels good to be doing something that makes you happy, even if it’s something little. For me, I love shopping, or taking pictures. Those little things matter in helping you come back. And if you love what you’re doing it’s so much easier to love yourself. Take time to do things for yourself and not others. It’s okay to be selfish sometimes. Spoil yourself, no one’s judging! 

Step 4: spend time with friends and family. 

Being with people you enjoy being around can help a lot. Especially if they are people that make you feel good about yourself. It’s always good to have a friend reassure you about your positive traits. And it’s also good to have someone to lean on even if that may be a family member. You can ask the people you love most to go out and do stuff, even if it’s something little. It always helps to ask for help even if you don’t want to or you feel stupid someone out there cares. 

Step 5: celebrate small wins

Give yourself some appreciation. Notice your achievements, no matter how small they may be. Recognize your efforts. It can keep you motivated and remind you that progress is being made, even if it’s step by step. You can set achievable goals, reward yourself, share with others, and reflect on your growth. There’s so many ways to recognize yourself, you just have to start somewhere.

Recognize- see and understand the value in you, acknowledge the worth,effort,and potential that’s right in front of you. 

Selfish – putting your own needs and desires first. Knowing when to prioritize yourself , your goals, and your well-being. 

Confidence – believing in yourself and abilities. Knowing you can handle whatever comes your way.

Growth – pushing past your limits, learning from every experience, and becoming a better version of yourself. 

Loving yourself is a journey, not a destination. It’s about recognizing your worth, embracing your flaws, and celebrating your strengths. Take time for self care, set boundaries, and don’t be afraid to put yourself first. Remember you’re the main character in your story, so treat yourself with the same respect and kindness you give others. Keep grinding, stay true to yourself, and let your self love shine.
