Hair Dying by Sammy Garcia

Ever since I was a little girl I always loved dying my hair. Before the age of 7 I was only allowed to use the spray can of hair dye. Once I reached the age of 8 was when the trend came out of teens dying their hair was kool aid packets. Obviously I came across this one day on youtube and decided to try it. Safe to say it didn’t work out so well as everyone who did it had blonde hair and I had pitch black hair so I ended up looking dumb with pitch black hair that smelt like kool aid .

By 4th grade I was allowed to bleach my hair but only the ends all throughout elementary school and mid middle school. When I reached 7th grade I went through an identity crisis and decided to be “basic” and cut the ends of my hair off leading to instant regret.

Once I entered 8th grade I was able to dye my whole head and I went with a bright blue using the brand splat (not my brightest idea) and ended up dying my whole skin and bathroom bright blue. Towards the end of that first week with blue hair the whole school knew me as “smurf” or “blueberry” because of my dyed blue skin.

When i decided to dye my hair neon green i went to sallys asking for advice on reaching level 9 blonde the sallys worker told me to use 40V developer stupid me listen to her advice and bought it when i started dying my hair i noticed my hair becoming really hot but i thugged it out, when i went to wash my hair it noticed my hair was very stringy and falling out. I still ended up using the hair dye and rocked the Ramona Flowers haircut. I was also very obsessed with Ramona Flowers during this time so I was completely okay with that.

One crashout afternoon when I was 16 I had a great idea to add pink highlights into my perfectly healthy black hair . The first round of my pink dying experience I didn’t have enough hair dye and had to leave the house with one half pink to get more dye from Sally’s. It was a very humbling day for me.

After all these hair dying disasters I still find the joy to dye my hair and trust the process because the idea of being able to “‘customize” my character itches my brain in a way any other thing can’t.
