My Platonic Soulmate by Jocelyn Ortiz-Burquez

People are always talking about soulmates and how they hope to find theirs someday. They always talk about soulmates but only in romantic ways. I wish people would talk more about their platonic soulmates. So today, I’m gonna talk about mine. My sister.

My sister’s name is Crystal, we are six years apart, and were polar opposites. But she’s my bestest friend in the entire world. When we were growing up we were always pretty close but of course with an age gap like ours it was hard to have many things in common. But I don’t think I have one bad memory of my sister. I always remember playing with her and we would always gossip to each other about different things going on and it hasn’t changed one bit. My sister and I can talk and talk about anything and everything with each other, we like to sit in the living room or kitchen until about 3-4am and just talk. I think that’s one of my favorite things we do, that I can tell her anything about me or my day and she’ll listen and won’t judge me. Well maybe a little but you get it, she just understands me, and vice versa.

Something about my sister that is true and false is that she never opens up her personality and is always in her shell but anytime somebody tells me that I always disagree. I disagree because anytime we’re around each other you can tell how much she opens up, she’s laughing, she’s talking a lot, she’s doing weird and silly things. I mean if I go to the store by myself I’m extremely quiet and minding my own business and she tells me that she does the same. But once we go shopping together you’ll hear two hyenas laughing in the middle of Walmart. I love to know that she’s comfortable enough with me to be able to open up her weird side with me.

Crystal isn’t just an amazing sister, she’s a wonderful mother and daughter as well. She’s a very thoughtful person even if she doesn’t seem like it on the outside. She’s always thinking about her family and always wanting to do something thoughtful for each and every one of us. I’m glad my sister wished for me to be born because I wouldn’t ask for a better sister ever. She’s one of the most amazing people in my life and I hope we’re able to grow old together, travel together, go outside to watch the rain, and be my big sister best friend forever. I love you so much sister.
